Ladies, we spend so much time loving everyone else. TOO MUCH TIME. I always hear women talking about how little time they have for themselves. And they're not saying that in terms of how little time they have to go on vacation.
They're often times talking about basic things.
They're saying they have no time to do the things that light them up. No time to meditate. No time for fifteen minutes of exercise or yoga. No time for a glass of wine and your favorite song. No time to check in with yourself and journal. No time to simply ask yourself what you need in a stressful moment. No time to take a breath alone. No time to eat without having to drive in bumper to bumper traffic, talk on the phone, and solve the world's greatest problems all at the same time.
Excuse me while I take the unpopular opinion here. This is totally unacceptable. I get it… we have to be hustlers, go-getters, super-heroines, doing it all while making it look easy. Look, I did it all for a while. And while I was busy making everyone else think I was an impressive, savvy, strong woman, I was burning out!
Eventually I had to learn how to say no to the things that were draining me – even if that meant that other people thought I wasn’t strong anymore.
Making time for other people and "important" events before you make time for your personal needs will eventually lead you to some kind of distress. Everyone experiences this at different levels and intensities. But whether it shows up as an illness, a breakdown, lack of focus, lack of clarity, or some other kind of message - your body and soul will let you know that you've been waiting at the very end of your to-do list for way too long.
We cannot live our lives this way!
So I've put together a list of my favorite quotes from some amazing philosophers, thinkers, poets, and researchers to help me get my point across. WE HAVE TO PUT OURSELVES FIRST!
Yes, Valentine's Day is about spreading love... but let's do our souls a favor and shower ourselves with some adoration first.
What are some of your favorite quotes when you need to remember your worth?
